Each day, a handful of local folks request an
official name change by filing a one-page document in Multnomah County Circuit Court.
Normally they're women changing their own name, or their children's names, due to a switch in marital status. Sometimes it's someone
more noteworthy.
But a few of the name alterations seem to come as the result of a radical life change. There was the guy who
changed his middle name to Danger. Or the dude who wanted to be called
Spyder Monkee.
But a
name-change request (PDF) Tuesday from one Adam Joseph Pica-Sneeden steals the show. He lists his address as the Outside In youth homeless shelter downtown.
It's not hard to improve on the name Pica-Sneeden. But he goes to new limits with his request:
Superman Strange Shadow.
Possibly a losing bet is behind this, and certainly it's a career-limiting move for Adam. Or Superman. But you have to applaud his daring.
