Stolen Shoes of Haitian Earthquake Survivor Returned

Last month, WW reported the sad tale of one Mercy Corps employee. That Haitian staffer, a survivor of the 2010 earthquake in his home country, visited the United States for the first time last month (after losing every worldly possession in the quake) then had his shoes stolen while skiing at Ski Bowl.

Well, today Mercy Corps got a call from Ski Bowl that the shoes had mysteriously reappeared more than two weeks after the fact.

Lindsay Murphy, a spokesman for the Portland-based charity, says Mercy Corps will return the shoes to 28-year-old Guivens Cemervil, though he seems to have moved on. "What difference does a pair of shoes make?" he wrote in a online comment to WW's Jan. 15 story.
