Local Artist Creates Tiger Wu Painting

He only wants $5,000 for it people.

TigerWuRyan Birkland's "A Celebration of Portland” at Stepping Stone Cafe - By Tiffany Stubbert

Forget cell phone snapshots. Local artist Ryan Birkland has commemorated Congressman David Wu's bizarre appearance in a tiger costume with an oil and spray paint work on glass titled “A Celebration of Portland” that’s currently on display at Northwest Portland’s Stepping Stone Cafe. Birkland’s name might sound familiar: Three years ago he briefly ended up in jail for “vandalizing” local telephone poles and a water tower with his kick ass wood panel “Portland” paintings.

A Stepping Stone regular, Birkland brought in the portrait of Wu last Friday. Employees love it. “He’s really on top of his game,” says Stone manager Denise Carlin. Birkland, who owns Gallery Nineteen (1325 NW 19th Ave., stumptownart.com) says he’s hoping to sell the painting for $5,000.
