After Tweeting From Work at MultCo, Collymore Cuts Twitter Account

Followers of Karol Collymore's Twitter account know that she has not been shy about tweeting socially while on the job as an aide to Multnomah County Chair Jeff Cogen.

Consider a couple of recent tweets from Collymore, who ran unsuccessfully last year for a seat on the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners.

There was this tweet Collymore sent around 1:10 pm on Wednesday, March 2.

Or this tweet from around 3 pm on Tuesday, March 1.

But today, we at WW checked our Twitter accounts and noticed Collymore had dropped off the lists of people we follow. And searches for Collymore on Twitter brought up no results.

Collymore says she recently decided to "declutter" her social media accounts. She picked up some unwanted followers, she says, during the campaign.

As for sending personal tweets from work as a public employee, Collymore says she sees no problem with that practice.

"That's the social part of social media," Collymore says. "I don't think it's a huge deal."

Collymore said neither Cogen nor his chief of staff, Marissa Madrigal, has ever brought up the subject with her.

Asked if that's true, Madrigal declined to comment.

"I can't talk to you about any personnel issue that we might have," Madrigal says.

On county policy, Madrigal says: "The general rule is that you can't work on personal stuff on work time, whether it's social media, phone calls or whatever.

"If any use of county time for personal work outside of lunch or break came to our attention," Madrigal adds, "we would address it with the employee."
