McCoy works under Tom Miller, who served as chief of staff to Mayor Sam Adams until Adams appointed Miller to head the city Transportation Bureau early this year. Adams has been the commissioner in charge of the Transportation Bureau since 2005.
Miller declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation.
Adams—who announced last month he would decline to seek re-election in 2012—put out a brief statement this afternoon:
This is a city and a state that prides itself on clean government so I am deeply concerned by the allegations; we will enthusiastically and fully cooperate with all aspects of the ongoing federal investigation of a City employee. Since this is an ongoing investigation, the U.S. Attorney and Federal Bureau of Investigation ask that we not comment further on the matter, and we respect that.
We will be placing Ellis McCoy on paid administrative leave immediately.
