Lots of applications in this week's OLCC blast:
First and most exciting, Prost! owner Dan Hart is teaming up with Tasty n Sons/Toro Bravo chef John Gorham and prolific restaurant investment firm Chefstable (whose portfolio includes Ping, St. Jack, Grüner and others) to open a new bar, Interurban, in the former Lovely Hula Hands building at 4047 N Mississippi Ave. The name likely draws on Portland's long-defunct interurban electric rail lines, one of which once ran up Mississippi Avenue.
Estacada's Safari Club, the town's bizarro chinese restaurant/lounge/natural history museum, is undergoing a remodel after several years of decline and set to reopen Sept. 23.
Janis Martin has applied to reopen Tanuki, her beloved, family-unfriendly, altogether wonderful Japanese bar, in the former Immortal Pie and Larder space in Montavilla, three months after her much-mourned departure from Northwest 21st Avenue in May. Fingers crossed for this one—Tanuki close to home seems too good to be true.
The owners of 82nd Avenue greasy-chopstick Vien Huong Restaurant have applied to change the name of the business to Double Up Bar. No further details are yet available.
Bow & Arrow, a new wine wholesaler, has applied to operate out of the same complex as Portland Wine Storage at Southeast 3rd Avenue and Ash Street.
James B. Crabb has applied to open Taste on 23rd, a wine-and-small-plates bar, in the house at Northwest 23rd Avenue and Johnson Street that houses La Salon du Visage and other small businesses.
Jackie Mathews, proprietor of outer East Portland's Stark Street Pub, has applied to reopen the slightly less distant Daily's Inn at 11807 NE Sandy Blvd. as Jack of Clubs, a bar with karaoke, live music and pool.
Caldera Public House owner Kevin Overby has applied to open a bottle shop, delightfully named Beer Bunker, in the old location of Oregon Bike Shop at 7918 SE Stark St., a block from the Academy Theater.
The vegan restaurant chain Native Foods Cafe, which currently operates in Chicago and the greater Los Angeles area, has applied to open a location in Tigard, in the former Zao Noodle Bar space at Bridgeport Village.
Catherine Solomon and Eric Apling have applied to open McCormick Pier Cafe in the heretofore troubled Bridgetown Pizza space at 600 NW Naito Parkway.
Corner Spot Tavern at North Greeley and Ainsworth has applied for a full liquor license under the proprietorship of Videorama owners Shirley and Allan Labeck.
