WW's weekly round-up of the nerdy events happening around Portland over the next seven days:

Tuesday, March 20

OMSI Science Pub: The Science and Art of Permaculture
[EDUTAINMENT] Permaculture: it's about sustainable agriculture, not the art of curling one's hair. Deke Gundersen, professor of environmental science and former co-director of the B Street Permaculture Project at Pacific University, will be talking guilds, zones, layers and other things Wikipedia tells me are important facets of this "ecological design theory." Mission Theater, 1624 NW Glisan St., 224-0166. 7 pm. $5 suggested cover. 21+, minors with parent or guardian.

Mean Streets PDX: A History of B-Movies Filmed in Portland
[FILM, EDUTAINMENT] David Walker is bringing the garbage back home. The filmmaker, historian and former WW movie critic takes the Hollywood Theatre stage to recall our rich history of disreputable cinema—particularly lost flicks from the boom era of 1972 through the early ’90s. The presentation features a reel of clips from Portland-filmed crap. There’s Ironheart, a 1992 Van Damme knockoff with Bolo Yeung. Then 1990’s Fatal Revenge, a batshit-stupid cop flick in which Walker himself meets an untimely death. Don Gronquist’s elusive 1975 opus Rockaday Ritchie & Queen of the Hop is followed by Shaw’s maniacally inept and wonderful Death Wish knockoff, Courier of Death. AP KRYZA. Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd. 7:30 pm. $7 general admission, $4 for Hollywood Theatre or Dill Pickle Club members.

Wednesday, March 21

Beulah Tabletop Game Night
[GAMING] Southeast 28th Avenue bar Beulahland is starting a tabletop gaming night. Why not. Scrabble, Risk, Monopoly, Settlers of Cataan, Zombies, Uno, Munchkin and all that good stuff. Beulahland, 118 NE 28th Ave., 7 pm. Free. 21+.

D.I.Y. Magic Release Party
[BOOKS] Portland writer Anthony Alvarado releases his new book D.I.Y. Magic, a collection of 30 short stories on the question of "What it magic?" based on Alvarado's former Arthur Magazine column of the same name. The book features black and white drawings by over 40 artists, including Lala Albert, Farel Dalrymple, Ines Estrada, Maureen Gubia, Kevin Hooyman, Dunja Jankovic, Aidan Koch, Jesse Moynihan, Luke Ramsey, Ron Rege Jr and others. There are only 1,000 copies of the book's first edition up for grabs, which features a letterpress silver foil cover designed by Lord Breaulove Swells Whimsy (The Affected Provincial's Companion, Vol. I). Those who purchase the book at this release party will also score free prints of artwork from the book. Floating World Comics, 400 NW Couch St., 241-0227. 6 pm. Free. All ages.

Makin' It with Destination DIY
[CRAFT] Public radio's Destination DIY show's monthly listening party, where the show's fans can get crafty together while listening to unaired new episodes, DJ sets from the Dandy Warhols' Zia McCabe and drink free PBR. ADX, 417 SE 11th Ave. 7-9 pm. Free. All ages.

Thursday, March 22

GameStorm
[GAMING] Possibly the most exciting thing to happen in Vancouver all year, the GameStorm convention is four solid days of gaming of all stripes: including board games, console games, role playing and LARPing. There will be workshops and panels, game demos, beginner sessions, labs to test out upcoming games, and sessions on how to build and publish your own games. There will also be a screening of Going Cardboard and a performance by the Doubleclicks. In true energy drink-fueled, sleep deprived gaming tradition, the event runs non-stop from 2 pm Thursday to 7 pm Sunday. Hilton Vancouver, 301 W 6th St., Vancouver, Wash. Thursday 2 pm-midnight, Friday-Saturday 24 hours, Sunday midnight-7 pm. $45.00 for all weekend, $10 Thursday only: $10, $20 Friday only, $30 Saturday only, $15 Sunday only.

Star Trek Pub Quiz Featuring Trek in the Park
[FANDOM, TRIVIA] It's William Shatner's birthday, and the Thirsty Lion is celebrating the traditional way: with bar trivia. The cast of Portland's beloved Trek in the Park will be there to present six rounds of all Star Trek questions, culminating in a Jeopardy-style showdown between the top five teams. There will be cash prizes for the top three teams, prizes for the best costumes, and a silent auction silent auction of Trek memorabilia, with all proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity Portland. Organizers are expecting a huge crowd, so come early to secure your spot. Thirsty Lion Pub and Grill, 71 SW Ash St. $5 per person to play. 7 pm.

Sunday, March 23

BarCraft PDX: Major League Gaming Starcraft 2 Winter Championship Finals
[GAMING] Because e-sports are superior to real sports in so many ways, BarCraft PDX has organized to screen the MLG Winter Championships live at Beaverton's Bistro 153. Go team. Bistro 153, 3203 SW 153rd Dr. Ste. 419, Beaverton. 10:30 am. Free. 21+. RSVP here.

The listing here are written by WW, but we crib events shamelessly from the Geek Portland calendar. Go there for more events and information.
