BikePortland had an
item recently that intrigued us this holiday season: Portlander Max Kirchoff is starting a venture called
TreesByBike that will use bicycles to bring locally grown Christmas trees from Wilsonville and Western Oregon into the homes of Portland residents.
Kirchoff, 28, tells
WW that his so-called “Riders of Yule” will be equipped with oversized messenger bags on their backs.
“I thought it was a cool intersection between my more extreme lifestyle of only riding a bike everywhere," Kirchoff says, "and my more traditional lifestyle of liking things like Christmas trees.”
TreesByBike is already taking
reservations for trees and hopes to supply everything from tabletop trees to seven- and eight-foot Noble and Doug firs. Kirchoff says his ambitions and message are pretty straightforward for this upcoming season.
“We're local, we're trying to be as sustainable as we can and we're just trying to spread some holiday cheer,” he said. “We're trying to find that place in between being conscious while still honoring tradition and just being regular people. That's where I find myself most days.”
And in true holiday spirit, each rider will donate 10 percent of their total delivery sales to the charity of
their choice.
