Embattled U.S. Commerce Secretary Has Portland Roots

The big national political story of today involves U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson, who was allegedly responsible for two hit-and-run crashes in California over the weekend.

Bryson, as The Oregonian reported when Pres. Barack Obama named him commerce secretary last year, is a 1961 Cleveland High School graduate, who went on to Stanford University and Yale Law before founding the Natural Resources Defense Council.

A Commerce Department spokesperson told the Washington Post that Bryson may have suffered a seizure but an investigation into the cause of the crashes is incomplete.
