Alta Gets Bike Stolen During First Day Operating in New York

Users Also Complain of Delays

New York City's Citi Bike program launched yesterday, and one of the $825 rental bikes was stolen only minutes after arriving in the city.

The program is being run by Portland contractor Alta Bicycle Share and is another in a long stream of delays the company has had in trying to run programs in New York City, Washington D.C., Portland and other U.S. cities.

Here's what the New York Post had to say of the theft, which happened Sunday night in Manhattan:

Crain's New York Business also reports there were "glitches galore" today. "Riders complained of problems docking their bikes, 20-minute customer service delays, and other technological snags as the program, which launched Memorial Day, got underway," the story reads.

The Oregonian's Joseph Rose also broke news today that 18 current and former employees of Capital Bikeshare in Washington, D.C., say Alta has shorted them for $100,000 in "withheld" wages and benefits guaranteed in a contract.

Let's hope executives at Alta got some rest over the three-day weekend. It's shaping up to be a rough week.
