There's a Memorial Sunday for the Wilsonville Bees

A memorial is set for this Sunday for the 50,000-some bumblebees killed off in Wilsonville.

Portlander Rozzell Medina has set up a Facebook page for the event, which will be held at 2 pm at the Wilsonville Target store. Fliers also got passed around at last night's Last Thursday event.

"I urge you to join us in our efforts to memorialize these fallen lifeforms and to draw attention to the plight of bees at this time and their importance to life on Earth," the Facebook page reads.

The death of the bees—whose bodies were strewn in the Target parking lot—startled and perplexed the nation. The state found that pesticides were the cause.

Now, as the Eugene Weekly reports, there's a temporary ban of 18 pesticides containing dinotefuran while the Oregon Department of Agriculture investigates the bee deaths.
