The Oregonian Calls for Jeff Cogen to Resign

A week ago, Multnomah County Chairman Jeff Cogen's political future looked bright.

Cogen, 51, who became the chairman of Oregon's largest county in 2010, appeared to be the heir apparent to Mayor Charlie Hales and the man who until Hales retires would continue to preside over the county's return to respectability.

What a difference a week makes. Last Tuesday night, Cogen confessed to a long-running extra-marital affair with a county employee.

Today, after the release of public records that shed further light on the affair, The Oregonian editorial board called for Cogen to resign.
