PacifiCorp Spends $10,000 to Fight Water Ballot Measure

Now there's electricity in Portland's water fight.

PacifiCorp, the Portland-based electric power utility, has donated $10,000 to oppose the May ballot measure that would remove control of water and sewer utilities from City Hall.

The donation to Stop the Bull Run Takeover PAC matches the largest contributions the "no" campaign has received so far. In the past month, the Audubon Society of Portland and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 189 both reported donations of $10,000.

PacifiCorp is an electricity giant serving customers in six states. It's also a member of the Portland Business Alliance, which has said the ballot measure is "fundamentally flawed and may exacerbate problems rather than solve them."

Measure #26-156 would create a public water district, an independent board that sets utility rates and controls spending at the city's water and environmental services bureaus.
