Attorney General Email Scam Demands Payments on Fake Loans

The Oregon attorney general is often the state official whose supposed to be hunting down consumer scams. But AG Ellen Rosenblum said today her name and official seal have been hijacked in an email scam seeking to bilk people who might have outstanding debt.

The scam email comes from "Mrs. Ellen F. Rosenblum" using an address that takes a stab at legitimacy: lawoffice_gov@mail.com.

AG spokeswoman Kristina Edmunson says consumers this week began forwarding emails asking if the requests are real.

She said the attorney general's office in not clear how many people might have been drawn into the scam. She says those who receive such emails should contact the Oregon Department of Justice or call 877-877-9392.
