U.S. Chamber of Commerce Endorses Wehby for Senate

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed Dr. Monica Wehby for Senate, giving her a boost in her primary campaign against fellow Republican Jason Conger, The Hill blog reported on Saturday.

"Dr. Monica Wehby is exactly the kind of leader that small businesses across Oregon need in the US Senate," Chamber Political Director Rob Engstrom said in a statement, The Hill reports. "Dr. Wehby is a listener and a problem solver. She is the type of person who can work through the partisan gridlock that is paralyzing our economy. Her long history in health care reform, and her opposition to the ACA, will be a real asset to all business owners and their employees who are worried about the skyrocketing costs of health insurance."

Wehby and Conger are the leading Republican candidates in the May 20 primary. The winner will challenge incumbent Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) on the November ballot.

Weybhy has also won endorsements from 2012 Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Conger has won endorsements from the pro-gun lobby Oregon Firearms Federation, the anti-abortion group Oregon Right To Life and Oregon Republican Lawmakers.
