Portland brims with young professionals looking to make it in the beauty scene. They strut out of beauty schools, like Paul Mitchell or Aveda, with perfectly shaped eyebrows and all-black attire. While they vie for your apparent grow-out and fibrous eyebrows, look no farther than Vivid Chromatics. Aryka Chrupalo, a graduate of Aveda and owner of Vivid Chromatics, opened her salon last February. For the month of August, she's giving a free deep conditioning with any cut and color. Chrupalo also participates in every First Thursday event in Northwest Portland, where she demonstrates styling tips, offers complimentary beverages and food and holds a raffle for free stuff. 510 NW 10th Ave., 207-475-8884.

This summer, Forever 21 is taking note of those on a teacher's salary and students living off peanut butter and Top Ramen. At this back-to-school blowout sale, teachers and students with valid ID can receive 15 percent off their purchase every Friday through Aug. 15. And for the rest of us, Forever 21 is having back-to-school deals starting at $4 and a buy-one-get-one-free for all markdowns through Aug. 10.

There's still time left this summer to hike, camp and explore the Pacific Northwest. If you’re looking for gear to build your outdoor summer stock, hit up REI’s 50 percent summer clearance on men and women’s clothing and footwear. REI is also offering 25 percent off on one outlet item through Aug. 8. Buy something for that September backpacking trip, or take it as an opportunity to stock up for next summer. REI, 1405 NW Johnson St., 221-1938.

Happy shopping.
