Buy PDX: Runway Shows, Spoiled Pets and Polychromatic Art

A weekly roundup of retail sales and events.

Pets like to be spoiled too—head out with your pooch or feline to Portland’s 6th annual Unleashed by Petco. Unleashed is an independent non-profit that raises funds to promote animal welfare and is celebrating the opening of a new pet specialty store. The store provides high-quality food, a self-serve dog wash and other pet essentials. For three consecutive weekends starting Aug. 17, there will be free giveaways, pet adoption events and pet photo booths. Petco Progress Ridge, 12305 S.W. Horizon Blvd. Saturdays-Sundays, Aug. Aug. 16-31.

Join the city's rocking designers and models at Portland's 9th annual Rock the Runway, featuring new collections by top designers like Dubard and J. Soriano. The show is free, but there's a suggested donation of two cans of pet food to support the Pongo Fund, an Oregon charity that fights animal hunger. Once you spoil your own pet at Petco, be sure to treat yourself to a fashion show, while supporting other furry creatures not your own. Aloft Portland at Cascade Station, 9920 NE Cascades Parkway. 8 pm-2 am Saturday, Aug. 16.

Pioneer Place hosts a public exhibition featuring a new collection from artist Peter Max. His captivating polychromatic works and hallucinogenic shapes are sure to take you on a zany trip. The artwork will be available for purchase through the Road Show Company starting Aug. 15. There will be two meet-the-artist gatherings on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 6-9 pm and Sunday, Aug. 24 from 1-4 pm. Pioneer Place, 700 SW 5th Ave. RSVP for the receptions with Peter Max to 844-810-9100 or eilene@roadshowcompany.com.

Cargo is Portland's go-to store for miscellaneous and unique items imported from across the globe. Living up to its motto—"let us overwhelm you"—the store is holding a huge moving sale as it makes the transition to a new location in the Eastside Industrial District. Don't miss out on major deals during the move and keep an eye out for the re-opening of Cargo later this month. Cargo, 380 NW 13th Ave. 11 am-6 pm Mon-Sundays. (New location will be at 81 SE Yamhill St.)
