Anti-GMO Labeling Campaign Cranks Up

Opponents to Measure 92, the November ballot initiative that would require labeling of genetically-modified foods, have begun funding what is likely to be a multi-million dollar campaign.

Filings with the Oregon secretary of state today show the No on 92 campaign raised $150,000 from the Grocery Manufacturers Association, $82,000 from Monsanto and $58,150 from Dupont Pioneer.

Those contributions bring the amount opponents have raised to $300,000, or about one-fifth of the $1.6 million proponents have collected.

In California and Washington, where similar labeling initiatives failed by a couple of percentage points in 2012 and 2013, respectively, the agri-chemical producers far outspent labeling proponents.
