Portland's Best Dance Music Options, Aug. 28-Sept. 3

ushardU.S. Hard plays 53 SE 80th St., with C Plus Plus, Karmelloz, Soul Ipsum and Sara Tonin. - Santiago Leyeba
In this column, WW music calendar editor and contributing writer Mitch Lillie helps the discerning club-goer put together their weekly calendar by compiling Portland's best dance-music options for the next seven days. Turn up, tune in, drop the bass.

Sure Vancouver’s Hexadecibel has dozens of solid bass releases under his belt. But it’s his most recent release—”Say Anything,” with Reilly Steel—that’s got my ears perked. “Say Anything” blends bass with midtempo house, something few producers on this coast or even this continent are able to achieve. See the mix on Thursday at the Rose. (9 pm, $10, 21+)

The hottest place to be this Friday is probably a former wireless store now called Projection Museum. The party stars U.S. Hard, a new industrial techno project from Santiago Leyba. His debut EP Junk just dropped Tuesday, so it’s fitting to have a venue that’s just as newly sprung—and lots of lasers. (9 pm, donation suggested)

I am not a basketball fan. I did not know the Blazers had an official DJ. His name is DJ OG1 and he claims to cross-breed genres, which I’m not sure is legal. He wears Rip City jerseys and prominently uses Papyrus on his website, which also features an auto-play greeting from the man himself. Rose. Saturday. Booyah. (9 pm, entry unpublished because they will probably rely on the bouncer’s bias to determine the price, 21+ [It’s also worth noting that, should you actually choose to grace the Rose with your presence, the attire is “summer fresh” which, in their eyes, prohibits athletic wear. Oxymoron much? Where have these guys been all summer? Ed.])

The Club Crooks crew again holds it down on Saturday at Holocene, with special guest DJ Bnick. The night is called Flawless, which just might be a Yonce reference. (9 pm, $5 before 11 pm, $8 after, 21+)

Trance is bigger than you think—let Sean Tyas show you just how much bigger on Saturday at Whiskey Bar. (10 pm, $10, 21+)
