Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown Says Gov. John Kitzhaber Summoned Her Home, And Then Asked Why She Came Back

"This is clearly a bizarre and unprecedented situation," Brown says

Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown today confirmed that Gov. John Kitzhaber summoned her back from Washington D.C. on Tuesday to discuss his resignation—only to ask her why she had come back.

"This is clearly a bizarre and unprecedented situation," Brown said in a statement. "I informed the Governor that I am ready, and my staff will be ready, should he resign."

Brown's statement confirms WW's Wednesday-night report that Kitzhaber personally telephoned Brown to ask her for a face-to-face meeting to discuss his plan to resign, then declared he would not resign before she landed in Oregon.
