Mike Rosen, New PPS School Board Member, Resigns City Job

Rosen's July 1 resignation letter begins to explain his mysterious leave from the Bureau of Environmental Services.

MIKE ROSEN, PPS Zone 7

Mike Rosen won a landslide victory in the May 19 election for Portland Public Schools' board of education.

He had no opponent, but there was no celebration for Rosen on election night.

Days earlier, Rosen, a long-time employee of Portland's Bureau of Environmental Services, had taken what appeared to outsiders as a sudden leave of absence from his city job. He stopped returning phone calls from reporters and even other school-board members, casting a gloomy shadow over an election that otherwise promised a bright beginning for PPS.

Wednesday, Rosen broke his silence, announcing that he was resigning from his city job for "personality differences" and "interpersonal issues" with his manager.

Here's the letter he wrote to city officials:

Rosen didn't immediately return a phone call from WW seeking comment. It is not clear what his disability is.

Update Thursday: Heidi Brown, a deputy city attorney, tells WW Rosen got no severance payment from the city.
