Give!Guide Alum Wins Environmental Award

energy award

Green Empowerment, a Portland based non-profit, has received an international Energy Globe Award for its “Solar Mobil Clinic and Hospital” project.

A member of WW's Give!Guide last year, Green Empowerment has been working with the Thai-based Border Green Energy Team on the project since September 2005 and has helped implement solar power arrays in 37 clinics and hospitals in eastern Burma. Green Empowerment helped to start the BGET and has provided nearly half of its funding.

The Energy Globe Awards have been distributed since 1999 in recognition of energy conservation, protection of resources and the employment of renewable energy. Awards are distributed in the categories of Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Youth. Nominations were pulled from 766 projects in 110 counties. The Solar Mobil clinic and Hospital project fittingly won the “Fire” category and Green Empowerment was also a finalist in the “Water” category for their "Solar Water Pumping and Community Empowerment" project in Nicaragua.

Along with the prestige, the BGET will also receive $13,000 in prize money.
