The announcement comes at a volatile time considering last year's Tibetan Uprising Day protests turned to riots where between 20-100 people are believed to have been killed in Lhasa, Tibet's capital city.

The Northwest Tibetan Youth Congress will hold a peaceful protest in Pioneer Square this Saturday at 4 pm. Protesters also will hold a candlelight vigil to "pray for an end to all the suffering of Tibetans under the brutal Chinese occupation and to pray for an end to the suffering of people around the world experiencing similar hardships," according to the group's press release
