MLS Update: Saltzman Tips the Balance in Favor of Soccer Proposal

Commissioner Dan Saltzman was the third "yes" today on the City Council to advance Portland's deal with Merritt Paulson on his proposal to bring Major League Soccer here.

Commissioners Amanda Fritz and Nick Fish were "no" votes, but were outvoted 3-2.

Along with Saltzman, Mayor Sam Adams and Commissioner Randy Leonard also voted yes.

Earlier in the day, a unanimous vote by the council removed the language in the proposal about a new urban renewal district in Northwest Portland, calling into question the possible use of that tool to raise $15 million.
