A small gathering of demonstrators stood outside City Hall around 10 a.m. Friday for a protest calling on Mayor Sam Adams to resign in the wake of Monday's news he lied
about a sexual relationship with Beau Breedlove, an 18-year-old legislative intern.
Rondine Ghiselline, who
supported Adams, carried a sign that asked the city to "protect interns from our mayor." She said: "This is not a gay-straight issue. This is getting turned into a gay-straight issue."
As if on cue, a man carrying a Bible interrupted the quiet demonstration. His sandwich board instructed the crowd to "fear God." At the top of his lungs, he went on an intolerant religious rant about Adams' "homosexual agenda." People covered their ears.
A press conference put on by Adams' supporters is set to start outside City Hall.
