Our favorite
cookie-baking sisters , Anna Phelps and Elizabeth Beekley of
Two Tarts Bakery, have expanded their popular Farmer's Market stands with
a permanent retail location at 2309 NW Kearney St., in the space just off Northwest 23rd Avenue that last housed the original incarnation of La Buca. If you haven't yet experienced the delight of a tiny, buttery, surprisingly satisfying Two Tarts creation, let's just say that
I always thought I knew how to make cookies—until I tried one of these cookies:
That's (clockwise from top) a
Cappuccino Cream, a shortbread, a Pecan Tessie and a Double Chocolate Chew. They were all delicious. The Cappuccino Cream might just be the pinnacle of human achievement to date.
The new bakery opened on Oct. 17, and our staff (especially Pulitzer Prize-winning cookie monster Nigel Jaquiss) have been making frequent trips up 23rd to load up on sweets. I stopped by today to check out the warm pleasant digs. Aside from some lingering construction debris in the
parking lot, which will be cleared up shortly, it's absolutely perfect. Here's a peek.
