Friday, September 5th, Someday Lounge.
Post-Team Dresch, Post-Butchies melodic punk star Kaia Wilson trots out a new band (affectionately referred to as "The Gayng,") and a new album's worth of country-influenced songs about her recently deceased pets. Best lyric of the night, from a song devoted to Kaia's dearly departed dog: "Let's go down, down to the river, we won't bring Monkey or Mr. Sliver, 'cause they're cats."
What could be more Portland than writing a whole record for your dog? Kaia went even further- she drafted her pup's veterinary cardiologist as the new bass player in her band. See the entire line-up in photos below: drummer Marci Martinez (also ex-Team Dresch,) backup singer Jenny Hoyston (the Erase Errata frontperson is a recent transplant,) and
Doctor Will Rausch on stand-up bass.

The band warms up backstage

Jenny Hoyston thinks Portland's really, really fun so far. (Disclosure: I am also in a band with Jenny. Which is really, really fun.)
