Dear Oregon universities,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been
placed on the Honor Roll of the
LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index.
The index owned by
Campus Pride and supported by the C
ampus Pride Q Research Institute for Higher Education ranks schools in terms of their
level of inclusion and respect towards the LGBT community. And it turns out that five of the six listed Oregon universities did well enough (got at least three stars out of five) to make it onto the index's “Honor Roll.”
Oregon State University and the
University of Oregon topped the list with five stars each.
Southern Oregon University and
Willamette University tied with four and a half stars each. And
Lewis & Clark College got four stars.
One other Oregon university,
Eastern Oregon University, only got two and a half stars. That wasn't quite enough to make the Honor Roll this year.
The indexing project judged each institution in areas like their campus policies, student organizations, housing options, counseling opportunities, and campus safety. The project has been in the works since 2001 and is continually collecting data. Other local colleges such as Reed College and Portland State University weren't listed. But if you want to get your college on the list, you can talk to your school's administrators and get them to take the
evaluation.
