“A lot of people were really dazzled by him, because he's good-looking and he told people what they wanted to hear, which was that Portland can be a player on the national restaurant scene,” said Nancy Rommelmann, a Portland journalist who has written about the Ripe downfall. “In a sense, he made good on that promise, but he'll never work in this town again.”
