Cedo's Falafel and Gyros

3901 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., 719-7344. Lunch and dinner Tuesday-Friday.

If you live or work in Northeast Portland, there is a nine-in-10 chance you will see someone you know standing in line during any given lunch rush at this narrow, bustling eatery. The brisk, friendly service and Jerusalem-style falafel sandwich ($10), filled with tabbouleh and hot sauce, have created a cult following. Cedo's is the Grateful Dead of Mediterranean eateries. We prefer the falafel plate ($10), which offers fat, golden, crisp-on-the-outside, moist-on-the-inside falafel on a salad, served with soft, warm slices of pita bread and creamy hummus. But a gyro sandwich ($8), full of perfectly spiced meat, will also satisfy your tzatziki cravings for…at least a week.
