Bucket Brigade is a Sports Bar With an Enclosed, Hidden Patio

Bonus: You can still enjoy it in winter when the heater is turned on.

A staple of Foster-Powell since 1985, Bucket Brigade (8012 SE Powell Blvd., 503-774-8953, bucketbrigadesportsbar.com, 9am-1am) is a proudly divey sports bar with low-slung ceilings, a tap list that ranges from craft to swill and décor consisting of random beer schwag and dusty antiques. The colorful clientele congregates on the enclosed patio, which is heated during the cold months, sharing stories, cigarettes and sometimes even a dance to whatever’s on the jukebox.

A native Southern Californian, former Arts & Culture Editor Matthew Singer ruined Portland by coming here in 2008. He is an advocate for the canonization of the Fishbone and Oingo Boingo discographies, believes pro-wrestling is a serious art form and roots for the Lakers. Fortunately, he left Portland for Tucson, Arizona, in 2021.
