Author Matt Love Pleads Not Guilty to Charges of Luring Minor for Sex

Writer and teacher faces charges related alleged text messages.

Matt Love, a prolific author and teacher and cultural fixture on Oregon's north coast, pleaded not guilty today in Clatsop County Court to charges that he attempted to lure a former student into having sex while the young woman was a minor, The Daily Astorian reports.

Love has written or edited 14 books including an account of the 1970 rock festival called Vortex I and a new novel about threats to Oregon's beaches.

The Daily Astorian reported that Love, 52, resigned his position at Astoria High School after his July arrest for attempting to lure a minor, a Class C felony and official misconduct, a misdemeanor.

"About half a dozen of Love's students came to Clatsop County Circuit Court Tuesday to support him," The Daily Astorian reported. "A few locals, including Gearhart counselor Maria Montes, a former student of Love's, attended the hearing to show their disapproval of Love."
