WW

Monday, May 7

OMSI Science Pub: Epigenetics
So it turns out the things you do in your lifetime—eating shitty food, smoking—can actually change your genes, AND those changes can be passed on to your kids. Wild. Lisa Sardinia, associate professor of biology at Pacific University and associate director of the Pacific Institute for Ethics and Social Policy, will tell you all about it while you drink beer. Bagdad Theater, 3702 Southeast Hawthorne Blvd. 7 pm. $5 suggested cover. 21+ or minor accompanied by adult.

Tuesday, May 8

College of Lockpicking
Learn how to pick locks for... highly legal purposes. Two lockpickers will explain what the hell goes on inside a lock, how oit works, then how to open it. Guardian Games, 303 SE 3rd Ave. 7 pm. $30, register here. 21+.

Stumptown Stories: Gambling, Gangsters and Pinball
Apparently 1950s Portland was "awash" with gambling, gangsters and pinball. Sounds awesome. Jack London Bar, 529 SW 4th Ave. 7:30 pm. Free.

Friday, May 11

H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon
Both professional and amateur cinematic adations of the works of H.P. Lovecraft, plus panels, readings, vendors and after parties. Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd. Fri May 11-Sun 13. ($50) Friday only $15, Saturday only $25, Sunday only $25, full weekend $50. hplfilmfestival.com.

Roy's Boys Release Party
Local comic artists Ron Chan and Sean Kelley release the first year of their webcomic Roy's Boys in paperback. They will be signing copies, and contests with prizes are promised. Bridge City Comics, 3725 N. Mississippi Ave. 6 pm. Free.

The listing here are written by WW, but we crib events shamelessly from the Geek Portland calendar. Go there for more events and information.
