Our sorta whenever roundup of gossip about new openings and change-ups in the bar and restaurant biz, courtesy of OLCC license applications:
After years of looking longingly at the drunker peoples of the north, cozy in their Sit N Spin (R.I.P.!), it looks like the laundryless people of Portland are finally getting a drunken laundromat. Owner Morgan Gary has put through an OLCC application for Spin Laundry at 740 N. Fremont, near North Mississippi Avenue, advertised as an "Eco-Friendly Laundromat, Bar & Cafe" with washing machines that text you when your load's almost done. The taplist looks sincerely minimalist: a pair of brews. But that's two more than usual. To the future!
The owners of the swanky Italian joint DeCarli in Beaverton will be branching out, also in Beaverton: They've applied for a liquor license at 12655 SW 1st St., #110, to open a tavern called Watson Hall in the suburb's "downtown."
Yet another urban winery will be packing its production into the Southeast Wine Collective space. James Rahn, the current sommelier at the Heathman Restaurant, has applied to move his grapes through their presses.
Union Wine Company plans to pack a second winery location nearby at 3302 SE Division St. Union Wine are the folks putting Pinot into pop cans, if you didn't know. The winery will be open to the public Friday to Sunday, says the application.
Hello Tigard brewery! The beer starved peoples of our nearest southwestern suburb will be getting a brewery called Red Ox Brewing at 9795 SW Murdock St., provided all state and local factions are amenable. Their Facebook page shows the that the brewers have made porter, IPA, berry beer, stout and CDA, among others.
A new Indian spot, appropriately called New Taste of India, is moving into the location of the old Quizno's at 6123 SW Macadam Ave.
Beaverton Korean spot Hae Rim, at 11729 SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, will be switching ownership to Soowon Park.
Amalfi's Italian Restaurant on 4703 NE Fremont St. has applied for an off-premises liquor license (which would apply to catering or take-home drinks.)
