Amy Kohnstamm Accepted $5,000 Donation from Former Gov. John Kitzhaber

Kohnstamm, PPS board member-elect, reported the cash after the May 19 election.

Many pixels have been devoted to the big-money race between Bobbie Regan and Amy Kohnstamm for the Portland Public Schools board on May 19.

Together, Regan and Kohnstamm raised more than $300,000 in a race that also included two other candidates. Kohnstamm won, fending off the incumbent despite Regan's last-minute self-loan of $45,000.

Now, campaign finance reports show Kohnstamm accepted a $5,000 contribution from the campaign account of former Gov. John Kitzhaber in the waning days of the school-board campaign. Kohnstamm's campaign didn't report that contribution until May 26, one week after ballots were due.

Kitzhaber, of course, is under federal investigation into allegations of influence peddling.

Neither Kohnstamm nor her campaign consultant, Jake Weigler, have responded to requests for comment from WW.
