Beer Hall: Vancouver Brewfest, Civic Summer Beer Fest, and A Party In Your Mouth (Release)

Portland Beer Events for the Week of August 11, 2016.

It's been almost two weeks since craft beer month left us in the dust, but that doesn't mean the warm-weather beer events don't keep on ticking.

This week, our neighbors to the North celebrate a mini Oregon Brewers Festival (with less "Woo"), a few taproom-based summer events hit the city's Southside. All of this while two of our most distinguished young breweries release limited edition brews.

Thursday, August 11

Chimay Draft Tasting

Belgium's famed Chimay brings three of its typically-bottled selections to Bazi for the night, where they will pour fresh from the tap. This special draft affair features the Trappist brewery's beers Red, White, and Blue—making it a fitting way to celebrate our nation's Olympic successes. PH. Bazi Bierbrasserie, 1522 SE 32nd Ave. 5-9 pm. Free.

Friday, August 12

Vancouver Brewfest

Vancouver is brewing a whole hell of a lot of beer these days—and on the heels of the Oregon Brewer's Fest, Vancouver is throwing a beer party of their own with almost 50 breweries in attendance, from cross-river breweries like Breakside and Crux to excellent 'Couvrians like Trusty and Brother Ass that don't tend to cross the river much. Day pass and 10 tasting tokens is $30, $37 gets you admission all weekend, with additional tastes $1.50 apiece. Esther Short Park 415 W 6th St, Vancouver, WA. August 12-14.

Party In Your Mouth IIPA Release

Great Notion premieres the latest in a line of excellent hoppy beers this week, tapping a fresh batch of (presumably cloudy) IIPA with experimental hops, blood orange, and Pop Rocks candy added. It's like a party, they say, but in your mouth.PH. Great Notion Brewing and Barrel House, 2204 NE Alberta St #101. 12 pm. Free.

Culmination Grand Cru Release

A bourbon barrel-aged Flanders red called Culmination Grand Cru marks the first release in the young and talented brewery's Rare and Vintage Series, the first of more than 20 special wood-aged beers to come. As far as debuts go, this one's probably a goodie. PH. Culmination Brewing, 2117 NE Oregon St. 5-9 pm. Free.

Saturday, August 13

Civic Summer Beer Fest

The Civic taproom collects its bartender's favorite summer beers for the day, where they will compete side-by-side for your heart. With beers like Culmination's kiwi radler, and a shandy from Double Mountain, think of this as the Olympics of easily-crushable pints. PH. The Civic Taproom and Bottle Shop, 621 SW 19th Ave. 12 pm. Free.

Westmoreland/Sellwood Summer Beer Fest

The fifth annual Westmoreland/Sellwood Summer Beer Fest remains with it's same homebrew shop host this year, offering pints of local beers along with a barbecue and live music. It's a small little shindig, but with proceeds benefiting the National Brain Tumor Society, it's also among the most socially-conscious places to make merry this weekend. PH. Portland U-Brew & Pub. 6237 SE Milwaukie Ave. 12-10 pm. Free.

Sunday, August 14

New Belgium 25th Anniversary

Colorado's New "Fat Tire" Belgium brewery is turning 25 this year, which means it can legally rent a car. It's celebrating with a ridiculously expansive 25-tap takeover at Green Dragon with beers that don't usually come here and one-off collabs with Hopworks, Firestone Walker and others, plus raffles, carnival games and local performance troupe Wanderlust Circus. Green Dragon, 928 SE 9th Ave. 11 am-6 pm. Free.
