Max's Fanno Creek

Max's Fanno Creek blends right into its surroundings. Between the Wii gaming area, playpen, oak picnic tables and murals of blond children holding hands and running in the forest, it's essentially dining hall at summer camp, but with beer on tap. They're slammed on Fridays, the bartender told me, though empty on my Saturday visit. For parents, six regular and four rotating taps offer a rainbow of brews, though they sway light. The easy golden ale is made for party pitcher-drinkers, and even the holiday seasonal is a soft hefeweizen with just a hint of sappiness on the end. It's enough to sink you into the leather couches, but not to keep you there when your turn at Wii tennis calls. Two generous happy hours every day and a nitro tap—the tongue-whipping Sneaky Fox IPA on my visit—round out the package.

Drink This: Try the Reverend's Daughter, a 6.4 percent ABV Belgian golden ale.
