Shango

6033 NE Win Sivers Drive, 971-279-5526, goshango.com. 10 am-8 pm Monday-Saturday, noon-7 pm Sunday.

Housed in a huge space that looks a little like the behind-the-scenes laboratories in Jurassic Park—buds in long glass vials, brushed metal, touch-screens everywhere—Shango is a growing local chain set to open its fifth Oregon retail location later this year. That popularity stems from the outlet's cradle-to-blaze philosophy: Shango grows its own and provides customers with insanely detailed breakdowns of the chemical analysis and grow history of each strain. It even makes its own chocolate! Save for the Marley on the stereo, this airport-side outpost could almost be an Apple Store. It may very well be what the future of cannabis looks like. "We want it to be the kind of place you can take your grandma," the cool counter girl in a Blazers jersey told me as I checked out.
