Watch the Last Artful, Dodgr Smoke Out With Her "Squadron" in the Buzzing Rapper's First-Ever Video

If you ask me—and you probably should, as it's sort of my job—the Last Artful Dodgr is maybe the single most exciting artist in Portland, hip-hop or otherwise. There are a lot of great MCs in this town, and a lot of singers, but no one else sounds quite so much like the future. She confirms her breakout potential in her first video, for new single "Squadron." Much like the beat from Australian producer W.N.T.D., the elements are minimal—it's basically just Dodgr styling in front of a moonlit car and in a warehouse with her "squadron," through an ever-present cloud of weed smoke—but in just two minutes, it exudes an impossible level of coolness. Watch out for the slick Bill Clinton cameo, too.

A native Southern Californian, former Arts & Culture Editor Matthew Singer ruined Portland by coming here in 2008. He is an advocate for the canonization of the Fishbone and Oingo Boingo discographies, believes pro-wrestling is a serious art form and roots for the Lakers. Fortunately, he left Portland for Tucson, Arizona, in 2021.

Willamette Week’s reporting has concrete impacts that change laws, force action from civic leaders, and drive compromised politicians from public office.
