Five of the Most Notable Artifacts From the Biggest Archive of Duran Duran Collectibles in the Northwest

Included: a Duran Duran condom.

In Duran Duran fan circles, Andrew Golub is a legend. A resident of Bellevue, Wash., the collector known as "Durandy" has amassed one of the world's largest archives of Duran Duran memorabilia—including 14,000 pages of magazine articles, 1,980 posters, 2,950 photographs and many, many other pieces of band ephemera. We asked him to tell us about five of the most notable items in his collection.

Contact sheets (1981)

"One of the first things I show visitors to the archive is the contact sheets, such as the two pictured below from one of Duran's first photographers, Michael Putland. These medium-format sheets offer up unpublished photos from some of Duran Duran's most recognizable sessions in the early '80s, giving the feeling of peeking behind the curtain."

Power Station Hot Sauce (1985)

HotSauce

"The hot sauce was a promotional item for John and Andy Taylor's 1985 offshoot group, the Power Station. It is one of the rarer collectibles out there, although the sight of 30-year-old hot sauce might be daunting for the stomachs of even the bravest Durannies."

Duran Duran condom (1993)

Condom

"Duran's 1993 tour produced countless critical acclaim, joyful fan memories and tour merchandise that included a condom emblazoned with the band's logo. One can never be too safe in their devotion to this band."

Duran Duran hospital mask (1997)

Mask

"The mask references the story behind the title of the band's album Medazzaland. Simon Le Bon received a sedative called Midazolam for a dental procedure, which prompted a photo session used in the tour program, featuring the band members in a dental office."

Duran Duran poker chip (2003)

casinochip

"In 2003, Duran Duran reunited with the original lineup for the first time since 1985. The repercussions of this were felt throughout the universe, but none more so than in Las Vegas, where the band performed at the Hard Rock Hotel. How better to commemorate such an occasion than with a special casino chip? It even came with its own stand."

Andrew Golub's new book, The Music Between Us: Concert Ads of Duran Duran, is out now. View more of his collection at durandy.com.
