Six years ago, N. Christian Anderson III returned to his home state to overhaul two of Oregon's biggest daily newspapers.
First, Anderson arrived at The Oregonian, where he served as publisher and then chairman of the Oregonian Media Group from 2009 through May of this year.
At The O, Anderson, 65, oversaw a dramatic reduction in newsroom staff, the conversion of the paper from a broadsheet to a tabloid, and the reduction of home delivery from seven days a week to four.
On June 1, Anderson became editor and publisher of the Eugene Register Guard, the first executive outside of the founding Baker family to lead that company.
Now, his work there appears to be done, in an abrupt shift first reported by Eugene Weekly.
Register Guard chairman Tony Baker announced that news internally to staff via email Dec. 17.
Here's Baker's email.
Wendy Baker, the Register Guard's general counsel and director of human resources, confirmed Anderson's departure but would not comment further.
