On the day that ballots are counted for the May primary, incumbent Gov. Kate Brown has nothing to worry about from her challengers for the Democatic nomination: Ed Jones, an excavator from Redmond, and Candy Neville, a Eugene home-builder.
That lack of competition has allowed Brown to conserve her cash: she's raised about $4.5 million for re-election and is still sitting on $3.7 million of that amount.
Her success in raising money from out-of-state donors continued today as she reported a $25,000 check from the world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, who lives in Santa Monica, Calif.
"This is another example of Oregon's progress under the governor's leadership being recognized around the country," says Brown's campaign spokesman, Christian Gaston.
Among Gehry's best known creations are the new Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Here are some others. (Gehry also once designed an affordable housing project slated for the River District but it never got built.)

Brown's opponent, state Rep. Knute Buehler (R-Bend), has raised about $4 million but he's faced more competition than Brown.
Both Bend businessman Sam Carpenter and former Navy pilot Greg Wooldridge of Portland have run hard to Buehler's right, causing the front-runner to spend heavily. He's currently sitting on just $454,000 and presumably hoping a strong showing when votes are counted will help him refill his coffers.
Ballots must be received at official drop-off sites tonight by 8 pm in order to be counted. Click here to find the nearest site.
