Shea Flaherty Betin has resigned as chief of staff to Metro President Juan Carlos González less than two months after being hired.
González announced Flaherty Betin’s resignation in an email to staff at the regional government Monday morning.
“I am writing to let you know that Shea has made the decision to resign from Metro, effective today,” González wrote. “I’m grateful for his service to Metro and I support his decision.”
Flaherty Betin joined González’s staff in late August, a little over a year after he stepped down from serving as interim director of Prosper Portland, the city’s economic development agency. Mayor Keith Wilson requested Flaherty Betin’s resignation in August 2025, shortly after Flaherty Betin clashed with city councilors who sought to strip Prosper of most of its general fund dollars.
A Metro spokesperson did not immediately respond to a question about whether Flaherty Betin will receive a severance package. Nor did the agency say if González requested Flaherty Betin’s resignation or if Flaherty Betin resigned of his own volition.
