Here’s How Portland Spent Its Snow Days

We built snowmen at the Rose Quarter, sledded in parks and skied through downtown, and a giant pickle was there, too.

The snow gives and the snow destroys—this post is about the former. Namely, sledding opportunities in local parks, urban cross-country skiing and plenty of pretty landscape photos.

Of course, the fact that we've all been working from home for a year anyway took some of the thrill out of the rare Portland snow day or, rather, snow weekend. But still: We had fun.

Here's what it looked like.

Matthew Singer

A native Southern Californian, former Arts & Culture Editor Matthew Singer ruined Portland by coming here in 2008. He is an advocate for the canonization of the Fishbone and Oingo Boingo discographies, believes pro-wrestling is a serious art form and roots for the Lakers. Fortunately, he left Portland for Tucson, Arizona, in 2021.

Willamette Week’s reporting has concrete impacts that change laws, force action from civic leaders, and drive compromised politicians from public office.
