Drank: Bourbon St. Chocolate (BuzzBar)

Alcohol-infused ice cream bars from a bodega? Yeah, get this novelty while you can. Somewhere, someone's mom is about to start lobbying for a ban on BuzzBars. That'll be especially stupid given these bars cost a childproof $5.99 each at the few stores stocking them—check Clinton Market, 39th Avenue Mini Mart or the Chevron on West Burnside—and have sub-3 percent ABV. No, BuzzBars won't get you a big buzz. At least not the ultra-rich Bourbon St. Chocolate, which has smooth, slightly oaky chocolate cream with a creamier, meltier texture than normal bars locked in a thick chocolate shell. You get a little booziness from the 1.63 percent ABV—alcohol freezes at a lower temperature than water, which makes this venture tricky—but it's mostly an aftertaste, like after you've sipped a nice bourbon over rocks. The Larry King Heart Bar, which uses merlot and berry sorbet, is far stronger at 2.4 percent ABV, yet better maintains its composition throughout the licking process. Flavorwise, think frozen sangria or grapeberry margarita. It's also one-third as many calories as the Bourbon. But, c'mon, we all know it doesn't have the same appeal as a chocolate ice cream bar. You know… for kids!
