Bar Guide 2015: Holocene

1001 SE Morrison St., 239-7639, holocene.org. 8:30 pm-close Wednesday-Thursday and Saturday, 5 pm-close Friday, hours vary Sunday-Tuesday.

Holocene, keeper of the indie and artsy flame in its district of Morrison Street, is now also Southeast's most bangin' club (a low bar, but one it clears like Fosbury), with its Booty Bassment meat market and rammed Body Party indie-dancehall-soul DJ night almost matched, in pure makeout potential, with the indie-folk live bands attracting the quieter sorts who shift their heels slowly together from across the room until they touch. Marvel at some of Portland's only truly efficient bartenders, who serve a ridiculously packed bar with remarkable speed. For a cheap start to your weekend, come in for the weekly Friday happy hour for occasional free snacks, and low-cost cocktail specials.

Happy hour: 5-8 pm Friday. Food and drink specials vary.

Entertainment: DJs of the bumpin' stripe, bands of the exotic and indie stripe.
