Fresh off winning a school board seat in East Multnomah County's David Douglas School District in 2011, Shemia Fagan is seeking the Democratic nomination in House District 51.
That district used to be almost entirely in Clackamas County and sprawl to Estacada. Now, after the redistricting carried out earlier this year, nearly half the district's voters are in Multnomah County. The re-draw will make re-election much more challenging for first term incumbent Rep. Pat Sheehan (R-Clackamas).
Fagan, 30, a lawyer at the Ater Wynne firm, says regardless of what happens, she will continue on the David Douglas board. (At least one House member, Rep. Mark Johnson (R-Hood River), also serves on a local school board). Fagan says her colleagues are enthusiastic about her interest in public service.
