Jesse Cornett, a founder of the blog Blue Oregon, former Portland State University lobbyist and former City Council candidate-turned publican is closing down his bar, the Guild Public House, located at 1011 East Burnside.

Here's the email Cornett, who used public financing to challenge incumbent Commissioner Dan Saltzman in 2010, sent out today:

Thank you for your ongoing support of The Guild. We’d like for you to be of the first to know that we’ve made the difficult decision to close the business at the end of the month. After nearly a year in business, we’ve realized that we’re unable to continue the business if we’re going to have the lives we value.

I’ve joked many times that the MPA I earned in grad school doesn’t stand for Master of Pub Administration. I miss the ability to work to support causes that help the public good and look forward to returning to my passion, regardless of whether I remain in the private sector or return to the public realm. Molly does great work supporting those in need and our closure will mean that she can have greater focus and less distraction.

We’re not going out without a bang and look forward to several events this month, most of which we told you about earlier this week. I hope you’ll visit our Facebook page to check out what we have going on and come on in and help us finish off the month strong.

The Grand Finale doubles as my 36th birthday celebration on October 29th. We’ll be open from 4-late. We hope you can join us. We’ll have tasty munchies and fire sale drink specials. And it’s Halloween weekend so costumes are welcomed and encouraged.

Warm Regards,

Jesse Cornett
