As WW reported yesterday, One Billion Rising PDX did not obtain a permit for today's march from the Portland Police. In a statement on the Facebook page for the event, organizers wrote
...we do not need "permission" to demand an end to violence against us. This is a human right. We are tired of asking for permission for things which should not be an issue to begin with.
The organizers commented on their Facebook page today that despite the lack of permit, the march is meant to be nonviolent and without any calls for violence or property damage, stating:
In our march, there will be many, many survivors of violence and it is for this reason that we hope this march will remain peaceful.
WW will be reporting live at the scene of the rally, which begins at downtown's Director Park at 3 pm PST.
