Terry Bean Arraigned in Lane County, Pleads Not Guilty to Charges of Sodomy and Sex Abuse

Indictment is released, offering details about the charges.

Portland real estate developer Terry Bean faced his first day in court today after he was charged with sex abuse involving a 15-year-old boy in September 2013.

Bean, 66, was arraigned in Lane County Circuit Court on two charges of third-degree sodomy, a felony, and sexual abuse in the third degree, a misdemeanor.

Bean has denied the charges. In court today, Bean pleaded not guilty to all three charges. He appeared with Portland attorneys Kristen Winemiller and Lisa Maxfield, and Eugene attorney Shaun McCrea.

The incident with the 15-year-old boy allegedly took place in a Eugene hotel and involved Bean's former lover, Kiah Lawson, 25. The indictment released today by the Lane County District Attorney's office says in the alleged incident took place Sept. 27, 2013.

Bean's legal troubles stem from a criminal investigation into Lawson's allegations Bean was secretly making videos of men having sex in his bedroom. Bean contended that Lawson was trying to extort money from him in exchange for Lawson's staying silent about the secret videos. After WW reported on Bean's relationship with Lawson in June, however, law enforcement officials began investigating Bean as well.
